About the Lab

A production pathway,
not a prize.

Himalayan societies hold powerful stories that are yet to be told. Writers working on Himalayan subjects are frequently left with unfinished drafts — not because the ideas aren't strong, but because there is no clear next step.

At Basecamp, we are working to build exactly that — a structured pathway for Himalayan stories to reach production. We identify serious writers, collaborate closely with them, and take selected stories all the way to the screen. If your story is selected, Himflix Studios will develop it, produce it, market it, and distribute it.

No agenda
No bias
Selection purely based on merit

"This is the first production cycle. Only up to 10 projects will be selected."

in the Himalayas, this is for you.

Writers working on Himalayan stories

You don't need to be from the Himalayas. If your story is deeply connected to Himalayan people, culture, landscape, or experience, you are welcome to apply from anywhere in the world.

03

Writers of any age and experience

There is no age limit and no experience requirement. Whether you have never written a script before or have several produced films to your name — if your story is strong and your connection to the Himalayan world is real, you are welcome here.

This call for submissions is open to writers and filmmakers of all backgrounds, from anywhere in the world, whose stories are connected to Himalayan regions, cultures, people, or narratives. There is no age restriction.

2. Originality & Rights

By submitting material, you confirm that:

  • The concept, logline, synopsis, and any related material are your original work.
  • You hold the necessary rights to submit the material.
  • The submission does not infringe upon the rights of any third party.

Himflix Studios may request additional documentation or clarification regarding rights ownership if required.

3. Nature of Submission

Submissions at this stage are limited to concept materials — logline, synopsis, and audio or video presentation. Submission of material does not constitute a partnership, employment relationship, or production agreement. No rights are transferred upon submission.

4. Selection & Discretion

All submissions will be reviewed by Himflix Studios. Selection decisions are made at the sole discretion of the studio. Submission does not guarantee selection, development, or production. Himflix Studios reserves the right to select up to ten (10) projects for this production cycle.

5. Development & Production

Any project taken forward will be subject to mutually executed written agreements between the selected writer and Himflix Studios. No rights, obligations, or commitments shall arise unless and until formal agreements are signed. Credits, commercial participation, and other terms will be defined contractually at that stage.

About Eligibility

No. We are looking for strong stories, not impressive CVs. First-time writers are as welcome as experienced ones. What matters is the quality of your idea and your ability to communicate it clearly.
No. There is no age limit. Anyone can apply — whether you are a student, a first-time writer, or someone returning to storytelling later in life.
Yes. The Writing Lab is open to anyone, anywhere in the world. Your story must have a genuine connection to the Himalayan world — its people, cultures, or experiences — but you do not need to be from the region yourself.
Yes. Your film can involve non-Himalayan locations. What matters is that the subject, the people, and the heart of your story are Himalayan. The geography of the narrative can extend beyond the mountains as long as the story remains rooted in a Himalayan experience.

About the Story & Submission

Absolutely. Two or more writers can co-apply for the same project. All co-writers should be listed in the submission form, and each must agree to the declaration. If the project is selected, all co-writers will be party to the formal agreements with Himflix Studios.
Yes. You may submit more than one concept. Each must be submitted separately, with its own form and submission fee. Every submission will be reviewed independently on its own merits.
Yes. Stories inspired by real events or real people are welcome. Ensure that you hold the rights to tell the story in the form you are submitting. If your concept is based on another person's life, be prepared to clarify the rights situation if your project moves forward.
Yes. You can submit a story based on a book, folktale, existing intellectual property, or oral tradition — provided you hold the necessary rights. Himalayan folklore and mythology are particularly welcome sources. Ensure the treatment and adaptation you submit is your own original creative work.
Yes. You may submit a concept that you have previously submitted or are currently submitting to another studio, platform, or competition. We do not require exclusivity at the submission stage. If selected for production, exclusivity terms will be addressed in the formal agreement.
Your script and submission materials must be in Hindi or English — this is necessary for our team to evaluate the material. The film itself can be made in any Himalayan language you choose. When translating, do your best to preserve the cultural essence and voice of the original story.

About the Submission

Your 2–5 minute pitch should clearly explain what your film is about and how you are thinking of treating it — the tone, the approach, the visual or emotional world you have in mind. You don't need to be on camera or have a polished setup. A voice note or a simple phone video is perfectly acceptable. We are listening for the clarity of your thinking, not the quality of your recording. If you prefer, you may also submit a written pitch, though we strongly encourage audio or video as it gives us a much better sense of your voice and intent.
No. The submission fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome. It supports the review and evaluation process. Payment of the fee does not guarantee selection or any form of response beyond a submission confirmation.
We will communicate with you about whether your submission has been selected or not. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we are unable to provide individual written feedback on every concept at this stage.
You will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of your submission. Our team reviews all concepts carefully — the first-stage evaluation takes approximately four weeks from the submission deadline. Writers whose concepts are selected will be contacted individually and invited to submit their full script. All other applicants will be notified of the outcome.

About Rights & Production

No. Submitting your concept does not transfer ownership of any kind. Rights and commercial terms are defined only through formal written agreements, and only for projects that are selected and taken into development. If your project is not selected, your story remains entirely yours.
Mentorship is not automatically part of the process. If the studio feels a selected script would benefit from development support, we will communicate that directly. Participation in mentorship is by mutual agreement — you are never obligated to accept it. A writer's preference to work independently will be respected, and will be considered as one factor in the overall development decision.
Yes. If your project is selected, you will remain involved in the script throughout the development process. Any further involvement — in production, direction, or other roles — depends on the specific project, your availability, and your own desire to be involved, and will be agreed in the formal written agreement.
In the first phase, we are only going to produce 10 films. If your story is not selected in the first 10, it will still have chances of getting selected in the next production cycle.
